Commit #5

Lots of posts today, so don't forget to scroll down!

Anyway, Michigan does have a 5th commitment for the class of 2012, the only problem is that it's a silent commit. At this point I'll say the same thing I did on Twitter, 'Silent commitments are silent for a reason, I don't know who it is, and even if I did, I wouldn't say, because its not fair on the kid.'
No-one wants to be the Dayton Daily...

It is however perfectly ok to speculate on who it might be!

I know who I'd guess, but to be honest its quite tough. Of the prospects that are known to be really high on Michigan (Ron Thompson, Matt Godin, Joe Bolden), none of them were at the spring game, and I would imagine that the spring game caused the silent verbal.
Then if we look at some of the players at the spring game (Jordan Diamond, James Ross, Sheldon Day), these guys all plan quite late decisions. So this does make it quite difficult.

Anyway, check out the 'speculation' poll on the right hand side, let me know who you think it might be, and who you want it to be!

  1. I'm going with Jordan Diamond.I think he has wanted to commit for awhile now but still wants other schools to come check him out so some teammates will get noticed. If I had to pick another it would be Sheldon Day.

  3. I think Tom Beaver said he was on the defensive side of the ball, so I'm going to guess Sheldon Day. Even though he was planning on a late decision, I think the combination of him growing up rooting for Michigan and his mother loving Hoke/Ann Arbor/U of M put him over the top this weekend.

If it's not him, my order of guesses would be James Ross, then Chris Wormley. I still think Wormley is a heavy Michigan lean even though reports of him still keeping an open mind about other places.

I will be excited to get a commitment from any of those guys you list in the poll, though.

  4. I'm thinking Day, but I'm anxious to see who it is!

  5. Wormley has said previously that he doesn't want to announce until the end of summer, so I doubt it's him, unless he's had a change of heart.
It could be James Ross, because he might want to reserve a scholarship, and there is probably only one left for a LB. Plus he would like to play with RJS if possible.
Sheldon Day might be a good shout, he's got a similar situation as Wormley above.

  6. If it is ross, we have a 100% better chance of landing richarfson.

  7. Very true. But if it's Matt Godin we have a better chance with Dan O'Brien. Seems like the in state kids are all connected this year.

  9. how do we know when we get a silent commit?

  10. Does anyone know when the rankings come out for rivals and espn, and when rivals team rankings come out. Also, does anyone know when the silent commit will be announced

  11. It won't be Sheldon Day because he has stated that hes waiting until after his senior year. I'm thinking its Jordan Diamond because he's wanted to commit to us for a while now. I think the spring game sold him.

  12. Could it be Devin Funchess? He was at the Spring Game and maybe he wanted to be sure he was one of the TE's we were going to take in this class. I hope we are able to expand the class to about 22 or 23 scholarship offers...

  13. TomVH said that the player plans to keep his commit silent until after his season.

  14. what about J.J. Denman? Wasnt he at the spring game? He is also and OL/DL so it could be him

  15. I don't think it'll be Funchess or Denman; they aren't that far along in the recruiting process. Given all the information out there, I've pretty much narrowed it down to two players....

  16. who do you think it could be benji? Im thinking its either bolden, sheldon day, or vontrell williams. seem like the most likely

  17. Not sure if I want to say yet. Going to wait a bit at least, because if one of them commits elsewhere, then I've basically given you the name of a silent commit, and thats not fair on the kid.
I will say that it's not Vontrell Williams, unless he picked up an offer this weekend.

  18. who have we offered outside of Diggs for WR?

  19. Dorial Green-Beckham, Aaron Burbridge, Dwayne Stanford, Malik Gilmore, Deontay McManus, Jody Fuller and Amara Darboh.

  20. Hey Benji, are we a long shot for Diggs? I see that he is high on ACC and SEC schools. I'm from Georgia and would love for Michigan to get a huge steal from the SEC schools! GO BLUE!

  21. Yeah Diggs is a long shot. We got his teammate last year, so everyone assumed that we'd have a great chance with Diggs. But it doesn't seem like he's that interested. He didn't show up for the spring game on Saturday, and now he's going to Virginia Tech this weekend.

  22. So Benji, of the top receivers, Diggs and Green-Beckham, who does Michigan have a better shot at? Because I feel we really need to land a solid receiver, cannot just throw to the million TEs Hoke wants!

And, let's say that Michigan gets commitment from all 4 LBs, but they want to turn one away... Do they get rid of the worst one or the one that commits the latest even though he may be the best (aka Ross)?

  23. I'm almost tempted to say DGB, because if Michigan lands Pike this summer (which isn't that unlikely), I think DGB would definitely visit.

If they decided that they only wanted 3 LBs, then after the third one commits, they wouldn't accept a commitment from the 4th. I think Hoke is a guy who will honor his word, I doubt he'd cut a guy who is already committed.

If the fourth guy was James Ross, they might just take him anyway because of his talent; not so sure about Bolden.

  24. Jay, where in Georgia do you live? I am moving to Buckhead in June. Would be great to know that I will not be the only Wolverine in SEC land.

  26. I live in Cumming, ga. About 25 minutes north of buckhead, man I could use all the wolverine fans I could get! I can't stand it down here in SEC country. I can't stand Uga or Auburn and everywhere I turn there they are, but I do rep my u of m gear and the wings!

  27. Jay, not sure why my name displayed as 9ac99996-69ca-11e0-b441-000bcdcb471e but think it is fixed now. Anyway, I am a huge Wings (used to have season tix about 10 years ago when I lived in Mich), Tigers and Lions fan. I'll hit you up when I get down to ATL.

  28. Sounds good, I go see the Wings when they play the thrashers down here. I'm just trying to understand why we always lose bad to them
