Weekend News

Quick hitters from the last few days.

- There was a pretty big 7 on 7 tournament at Pittsburgh this weekend, and apparently Cass Tech CB Terry Richardson had a very good showing. Although I'd say TR is the least likely of the Detroit trio to sign with UM, the Wolverines still have a pretty good chance, especially now that he's attending the spring game next weekend.

- Unfortunately Zeke Pike did not perform that well and is rumored to have thrown a ball at an official after growing frustrated. This will probably get blown up by the media, calling him a loose cannon or whatever, but personally I'm not that bothered about it. He's only 17, and he'll learn from this. From interviews and stuff, Pike seems like a really nice guy, so lets just hope this an anomaly.

UPDATE: Well I guess it was blown up by Twitter. For Zeke's side of the story, click here.

- Ohio DE Pharaoh Brown once again named Michigan as his leader last week, and he expects to be back on campus this spring for another visit. Brown also has offers from UNC, WVU, MSU, ASU, Illinois and others.

- Michigan's class could potentially double in size this week. Kaleb Ringer announces his choice this Friday, and Joe Bolden is expected to be on campus with his coaches (always a good sign). Michigan leads for Bolden, so a commitment from him this week wouldn't be too surprising.

  1. Benji, Do you think Pike well turn into another Ryan Mallet with a million dollar arm and a 10 cent brain?

  2. Here we go, another post dogging Zeke Pike out. Leave the kid alone. You act like he got arrested or given a summons for throwing the darn ball at the ref. or whatever it was.

  3. I am not dogging Pike I hope he comes to Michigan. I just want to know if he will bring unwanted attention to the program.

  4. I think RR brought enough!! Zeke can do nothing but help this program.

  5. Jer89, as i said in the post, i wouldnt worry about this too much. Im sure we've all had some moments like this whilst playing sport; my broken tennis racquet agrees with me....

I'd still be over the moon if Pike committed to Michigan.

  6. Dont sweat the Pike "scandle",it will blow over. Benji you think we will get any commits at the spring game? I think maybe Jordan Diamond might go ahead and pull the trigger! with 2 OL commits already he may think he better hurry up and get in this class.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Jordan Diamond will be a visitor for the spring game, so its possible that he could pull the trigger, especially since Michigan is his clear leader.
I'm not sure whether he wants to drag out the process though. Often the top recruits delay their decision to make coaches come and visit them at school; and this could help Jordan's teammates get some offers.
And Brady Hoke has probably already told Diamond that UM will hold a scholarship for him; he's too good to miss out on.

  8. I remember tossing a basketball toward a ref and getting T'd up. I received the sportsmanship award that same year. Without being there it or seeing it, it is a tough thing to judge. I'm sure he plays with passion and is competative. May have let his emotions get the better of him. I hold any judgement. We just don't know what happened.

  9. Go to Mblog.com, TomVH has posted exactly what Zeke Pike said about the issue. Exactly what I meant, blown out of proportion.

    Per Zeke Pike.

  10. Anyone else hope we can get Ronald Darby on campus for a visit? i know the kid isn't a big time player but he is the fastest kid in the country. anyways I'm just bored and looking for intelligent recruiting talk unlike what most of these other blogs have.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Well Scout has Darby as the #2 CB in the nation, so he's going to be a big time player; and he's got big time offers!
He does have some interest in Michigan, I believe his dad is a UM fan, so hopefully he can be persuaded to visit.

The bad news with track stars is that track events often stop them getting out on visits over the weekend. So if he plans an early decision, Michigan wouldn't have a good chance.

  12. Benji do me a favor and never turn into The Go Blue Wolverine blog! Every single article has some sort of back-handed shot at the old staff. Cant we all as Michigan fans just move on!! Anyways thanks for the heads up on Darby. Have you heard if RJS and Ross will be with Richardson at the spring game? Thanks.

  13. I just listen to live interveiw with Coach Hoke and O.C Borges. Talked alot about the team and especialy the offence. It was a good interveiw to listen to. Did not talk about recruiting all about the current team. It they rebroadcast it on MGOBLUE.Com you should listen in.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I'll post a full list of spring game visitors on Thursday or Friday, but I believe RJS and Ross will be there.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Any ideas things to do before/after the game. We are headed up for the spring game, and haven't been up in a while.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Speaking of visitors...according to michigan.scout.com. A tweet from MVictors had Hoke saying 300 former players attending the Friday night Team meeting. Nothing but positive vibes in AA right now.

    Go Blue!!!!

  18. I'm not a big fan of Zeke. he doesn't look like a good natural passer, more of a gifted athlete. no word on MI recruiting Gunner Keil? or is he headed to Notre dame? Keil looks real good!

  19. lol
    Smokey

really the last time i went out in A2 I needed a fake id to have sangria at Dominicks and cured my hangover with the Fleetwood in the morning. Lets just say its been a few years.

But most important, looking forward to the game.

    ReplyDelete
  20. So you don't need a fake id anymore?? we can make it work either way lol. What happen you don't wanna tell all us on here what you look like? idk bout anyone else but I'm curious lol

    ReplyDelete
  21. smokey.... you dog! ha. I'm getting antsy waiting for recruits to start flowing in. i want big named recruits, i know this is on all of our minds. and i wonder if Hoke called zeke up and asked about the 7 on 7 incident to show him he cares and what not?

    ReplyDelete
  22. It's a long read but...

Practice re-cap from GBMW... someone has posted it on mgoblog (too long to re-post here or i would)

Ricky Power's speach half way through is something that'll pump our current team up. This is where they elude to 300 former players being at the game. I think maize09blue mentioned above.

What a great atmosphere for the recuits coming to the spring game.

We get some GreaT recruits next weekend.

  23. I think having former Michigan player on the sidelines can only help with recruiting. I hope that coach Hoke can start getting more of them on the sidelines for games espeacilly players like Brady,Woodson,Howard,Woodley and Hart.Ask Jake Long to come in to see the o linemen.the nfl player free right now. And ask them to talk to new recruits.I do think Coach Hoke will bring Michigan back to where it should be. I do wish I could go to the spring game but I am stuck living in Florida so can all you great Michigan fans go to the game for me and fill the BIG HOUSE up and show the new recruits we want them here! And this is where they should play.

    ReplyDelete
  24. To anyone going to the game can you please take some pics to post so we can see. I wish I was leaving awful southern Ohio to go up but I have to put a new kitchen floor in to finish up my kitchen. Anyways what is the ONE thing you are looking for in the spring game? I'm really looking forward to see how the LB's are playing.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I forgot to ask if you are going to the game please donate at the game it is for a great couse.

  26. The ONE thing i am looking forward to seeing is how the player changes on D will effect how those guys perform.
Unfortnately I am stuck in this hell hole called alabama, surrounded by retards(auburn fans) & assholes (alabama fans).
So if you are fortunate enough to go to the game, be loud and show some support to the players; past, current, & future...

    ReplyDelete
  27. I'll be at the game. I'm looking forward to how Greg Brown the freshman corner will do, also will campbell and who the starters look like they will be

    ReplyDelete
  28. @ Will, yeah i would love to hear how Brown is doing also. hope you get a good look t him and can post about it. Also if you can,get a good look at Jake Ryan. I think that kid my end up being a player. Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  29. I can't wait to be back in the big house for the game!! Michigan football is the main thing I miss from back home. Jer89- I moved to florida too. Where about do you live?

    ReplyDelete
  30. In heard Rawls continues his visits and will be at the spring game. I'm excited to see him play. I am under the impression he was a 3* because of grades. I hope that doesn't continue to be a problem.

    Didn't he break all
Mark Ingram's records. If he can keep it together in the classroom, he'd going to be something special.

    ReplyDelete
  31. @Jenn,yeah he broke Ingrams records last year. I really wish he could have enrolled early but I really just hope he can get to school and stay on the team. You can check out some of his film on youtube.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Yeah Rawls is going to be a good one; he's a great combination of speed and power. Probably won't see much playing time this year because of the sheer depth already on campus, but in a couple years he's going to be a 1000 yard rusher.

  33. Hey Benji I was wondering with you being in England, what time does the Michigan games usually come on over there? Do you have to watch them all on-line??

    ReplyDelete
  34. Matthew I live just outside of Orlando.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Yeah I bought ESPN player, its all $90 for a year, but I get the a load of basketball games too, so its worth it.

I'm five hours ahead of Eastern time, so a 12:00 kickoff in Ann Arbor means I'm watching it at 5pm. One time I was in the library at school and watched 3 CFB games in a row, so was there from 5pm - 4:30am!!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. lol Nice! Are there a lot of football fans over there?

    ReplyDelete
  37. I know a few guys who follow the NFL, but I've yet to run into a real college football fan. I once saw a guy with a maize and blue Michigan t shirt on, and as I walked past I said 'go blue', but I don't think he knew what I was on about!

    ReplyDelete
  38. lol thats classic! How did you become a Michigan fan then?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Oh ok cool! I live near tampa. I am sooo sick of the SEC fans down here lol but ill admit, these high school teams look faster down here.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Not really sure, I've been to America quite a lot, and I always remembered hearing stuff about Michigan, plus the uniforms are awesome! So yeah, that and watching Desmond Howard videos on youtube!

Looking back, I'm so glad I chose Michigan. Even though they've been awful since I've been following them!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Kaleb Ringer is BLUE!!!!! Dayton Daily news just broke the story.

    Go Blue!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Thanks for the tip off, I was just about to go to sleep!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Watching 'year of the quarterback' on ESPN.

This hour long story on Tom Brady is a great recruiting tool.

    ReplyDelete
  44. @Worm No doubt, I'll bring my pen and paper

    ReplyDelete
  45. Benji, what's ESPN Player?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Its just a website run by ESPN for people outside of America (I think), and you can stream any CFB or CBB game that ESPN shows.
