Ohio St Sanctions

Yeah so OSU got hit with a one year bowl ban, and more scholarship reductions.

I really hope Meyer was telling recruits that they won't get extra sanctions, because now that could come back to haunt him.

For the record, Brionte Dunn is sticking with OSU, despite the bowl ban.

  1. Don't forget the 9 (I think it's 9 . . .) lost scholarships :)

  2. Not a stiff enough penalty. Two year bowl ban minimum imo. But does anyone really think this is the end of ohio state cheating? * If you're not cheating your not trying-osu's continued motto.

  3. After all the back and forth crap by Dunn and that PR BS about ending his recruitment last Tuesday, I wouldn't want him.

  4. Can ohio stay clean for 3 years.

  5. While I thought they should get more, this is more than I thought the would get.

  6. I'd bet that Meyer has been lying to get players to commit. I was doing a bit of research yesterday and came across an article detailing some of blatant lies Meyer told recruits during his time at Florida. People may know about this stuff already, but I thought it may be worth revisiting.

Jevan Snead, a QB committed to Florida at the time, asked Meyer why Florida was courting Tebow. His response was that they had planned to play Tebow at linebacker. This came into question because Meyer had promised Snead that he would be the only QB in that class. So, Meyer lied to Snead about being the only QB in the class and then lied to him again when Florida went looking for a second QB (Tebow) in a effort to retain Snead's commitment.

Meyer also lied to our Stomum. He told Stonum that he had spoken to Coach Carr and that Carr had told him personally (Meyer) that Stonum would be a better fit at Florida than UM. Fortunately, Stonum was wise enough not to fall for the trick and asked Carr about it. Once Stonum found out that Meyer was lying to him, he wanted nothing to do with Florida.

These are just two instances in the article. Not sure if link posting is allowed here, so I will refrain from showing the link for now. Meyer has a track-record of using underhanded methods and lying to retain/land recruits. He has most likely carried on with his dirty ways at ohio. With the way he has landed recruits, I think it's probable.

you can post links, please post the one you mentioned

I knew Meyer was a liar, once he told Dunn "nothing more will happen", how the hell does he know? And what happened? MORE.

  8. To all the people who were wondering why people dislike Urban Meyer so much...here's why...he's barely been in the job a couple of weeks and he's already lying through his teeth. An Ohio State University and Rural Meyer deserve each other.

  9. It's not from an official source but it has quotes, so I trust it. Take a look here:

  10. This punishment is nothing. Just think about it. One year bowl ban only hurts the seniors that's it. The current class will redshirt so nothing bad there. And as for the loss of scholarships Meyer will get around that by over signing and cutting some other players just like he did at Florida. So I say again the only people that will suffer are the seniors.

  11. I also saw this one while browsing the web, but on my phone so hard to compare the info with your link. Maybe this has so added info. http://m.bleacherreport.com/articles/37426-florida-football-is-meyer-an-urban-legend-or-urban-liar

  12. I think OSU got off pretty easy. A month or so ago Troy Smith and Clarrett were both on the radio taking about how they were fall guys and took their punishments so no further investigations would go on back then. What OSU has been doing has gone on systematically for over ten years. The consistency of the NCAA does not make sense either. USC was charged with the same thing and lost 30 scholarships.

As for recruiting I really am not worried who OSU gets. I would not be surprised if Meyer has and will not tell kids the truth. It has been proven and will continue to be the case. Meyer will also recruit kids with a much lower moral standard than our coaching staff and the rosters will very tremendously. I really can not see OSU getting through the Meyer era without another blemish on their already spotted record.

I do like what our coaching staff is recruiting for, Great talent with good morals and character. Look at the suspensions that they threw out and some of last years recruits that did not stay. It really says a lot about the coaching staff at UM. Everything they have said about being accountable is true and not just lip service. In the end I will take a team with more character everyday over what will soon be going on at OSU.

  13. I read that link schmiege posted, very interesting. Sounds like Meyer will fit right in at O - lie - O state

  14. If Urban Meyer is such a bad guy, why did Greg Mattison choose to work for him all those years?

    ReplyDelete
  15. All these Urban Meyer stories about him lying need to come to a national forefront so that recruits can know about this and not be fooled by his conniving ways. I do not personally know how to spread this but I think with all the people on the blog we can.

  17. I use twitter too (mostly just for sports). I'll follow you C-Note.

Twitter is a very useful tool to keep up with recruits and stuff. I can see Magnuson has been busy on there trying to get Garnett to go blue.

  18. they still got away with it. one year bowl is not enough.

  20. According to espn USC got hit harder because their main charge was lack of institutional control, and they had significantly more money involved. Ohio's was failure to monitor( i might have these switched, regardless they were different charges) so you really can't compare both theses cases (according to ESPN). However i still believe ohio got off easy, they will find a way around the 9 schollies, and a 1 year bowl ban is laughable. I believe a 2 year should have been the minimum to send a message. Hopefully the NCAA keeps an eye ohio because i believe they will repeat.

Also for all the talk about Chesson, If hoke wants him at UM, and he wants to go to UM, I want him at UM.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Chesson looks good on film and has some size. Very excited about his potential and hope he goes Blue!!

I'm not happy about ohio not being able to play in Big 10 championship next year. Now we can't beat them twice next year.

  22. Just as a fan of college football I don't like the ruling. If the NCAA was interested in putting a stop to the cheating then they would have hit ohio with a more severe punishment. I think some college football programs will feel much more comfortable cheating when they know others have gotten off without their due punishment. It's like handing out $5 speeding tickets. The punishment isn't harsh enough to prevent the offense.

I think the lack of enthusiasm, among the fans, in Chesson should be expected. As fans, we have nothing to go on other than some highlights and star ratings. There's not a single team that gets only four- and five-star players. Some of the best players were three-star guys. I think it's also due to the fact there are so few spots left in the class. We want to see UM fill those spots with top guys. Chesson is a tall WR that can be developed into a really good player, though. With Dan Gibbs, I'd rather see UM holdout for the possibility of a Garnett (or even Kozan) commit than take a two-star guy as the last O-lineman. I'm confident that we could land one or the other. It would be great if we can get Gibbs as a walk-on, too.

  23. Someone please tell me that I am taking this out of context but one of Terry Richardson tweets read that if Michigan starts talking about a redshirt than he is done with Michigan. Does he just expect to come in and start over an emerging superstar in Countess or someone who could very well be the leader of the defense next year in Floyd. I feel like a redshirt could benefit him, i.e. getting a firm understanding of the playbook, getting in the weight room. Also I would love to see Hoke and Co. take Pharaoh Brown back into the class. The kid is too talented to lose especially at a position as thin as TE.

    ReplyDelete
  24. From what I've read we told Richardson he will get pt as a freshman. So if we pull an urban meyer and lie to him he should decommit. He should see some pt as a nickel back. Plus a tandem of countess and Richardson excites me, not as much as Wright and countess tho. I thought we had like 3 te's in this class already

    ReplyDelete
  25. @Alex Yep, I saw that Richardson tweet too. If we land Reeves or Wright, I could see him getting a redshirt. If his stance is that he will come in and be a starter as a true-freshman, without earning anything, then good luck. This is not something that is done at any top-notch football university. He won't be able to go out and find a worthwhile football program that is going to guarantee him a starting role freshman year. I don't take a tweet too seriously, but I hope he comes to his senses and sees the grander picture.

  26. I don't want to bash any of these kids, but reading an article on ESPN about how the sanctions affect the recruits, Noah Spence's father, Greg, says: "Noah's still committed and coach Urban Meyer is like family to us," said Greg Spence, Noah's father. "Noah told me he's not committed to Ohio State for four years but committed to them for life. He feels great about his decision."

It's laughable to me that 2 weeks ago TSIO wasn't even on their radar and now, after Meyer lied and said everything would be fine, this is how they feel.

  27. TRich concerns me. I have always worried that his commitment wasn't a strong one (remember when he wanted to take visits). I think the main reason he's still with us is his coach at Cass Tech. I hope he doesn't become that late decommit from this class. He is very talented and should see the field regardless of future additions to this class (Wright / Reeves). That being said, he needs to understand his PT will be earned like everyone else.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I would say let him go. If he is going to scare off because it will be tough to get a starting role...then get! If he is on the bubble the let him know that guys get hurt...some of these guys ware over rated, and the hardest working guy whole learns the fastest will end up on the field. My feelings on this recruiting class has been it will only get better if guys decommit. We have a lot of very talented guys considering us. At this point if a 4 star guy leaves it opens a spot for a 5 star guy to take! If he leaves late who knows maybe we end up with Payton.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Ya... if your going to go on twitter and say something like that, then your better off going to a school like TSiO. That seems to be a cancerous statement and I hope that they weed garbage like that out of the program. I am confident they will do so.

  30. As many of you have stated I'm kinda glad Ohio got off easy, so when we beat them twice a year it will help bolster our resume to get into the NC. I don't care about Urban or his recruits. Ohio has always had lots of talent. That is part of the fun in beating them. We have an awesome recruiting class and I'm gonna rout for every kid that commits to Michigan and rout against Ohio. Just remember every great super hero needs a super villian. Hail to the Victors!!!

  31. Remember T-Rich is 17/18 year old kid. They say and do stupid things. I would love for him to come to AA ,but if he doesn't oh well. JT Floyd, Avery, and Countess looked good this year. Wright and Reeves look like promising prospects. I'm hoping Chesson goes Blue today, his film is very impressive!

  32. these kids are only stars right now. what will tell is whom works the hardest and they will get to play. brady plays this way. the way it should be. if a kid says i do not play i do not commit. well i say good by. need to earn your spot. do not know how a kid can think i can walk in and play. oops sorry 17 and 18 years old thinking. great in high school. michigan another ball game.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Coach Hoke said basically that at the signing day press conference for the 2011 class. I'm paraphasing, he said he makes no promises a kid will play or redshirt. Basically playing time is earned not given. So if he wants to go to the SEC or Oregon(I just have a feeling) then let him go. Most good coaches have the same policy.

    ReplyDelete
  34. i think that the osu deal will not have any commitments leave. maybe a big maybe one or two but generally i think it will stand pat. two year ban would be the the other way around.

  37. I think that Ohio sanctions were fair after what happened, and I hope they can learn a lesson from this, I read an article on host pay per head and they said that Ohio could have been even more affected by the sanctions, they were lucky
